Hi. This is my first posting on Lactnet after reading postings for several
weeks. I am an RN and IBCLC certified. I have worked in newborn nurseries,
Levels I,II, and III as a M/B and home health nurse for M/B visits for the
past 20 years. I have 4 breastfed children, each nursed for 12-15 months.
I broke my silence on Lactnet to ask for information. The NICU and M/B
unit coordinators at the hospital I work for have asked for information
concerning the number of lactation consultants recommended per number of
deliveries. I remember some recent discussion on this topic. They would like
to have it to present to their manager when they present our plan for an in-
house lactation consultant. We already have myself and another RN(IBCLC) on
M/B to share hours. Our hospital does over 2000 deliveries a year. This is a
big step for this hospital. In the past they advertised lactation consultants
who were actually working as fulltime staff nurses. If anyone knows of an
article which states this information please e-mail me at Mary [log in to unmask]
Thank you very much. Mary
