Dear Everyone:
Reading Patricia Gima's post about the mother who wanted to nurse in the
summer and wean by fall because of her teaching schedule and of how people
think of babies as creatures with off/on switches reminded me of a mother I
counselled. She was an attorney, with a very demanding, long work schedule.
She wanted to make milk at 6:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 6 PM, and 10 PM because those
were the times she available time to pump. (Baby was a month old). She asked
me how to do it. I told her I couldn't. I said that she could try, and gave
some ideas. But it didn't work. I don't think I made any impression on her,
because she was too busy and had too much to do to listen, either to me or to
her baby. Sad. Warmly, Nikki
