Michelle: I am not sure how your health system works but do you know a dentist
or other health provider who can perform frenotomies that may be willing to
clip the frenulum as a personal favor to you? That may help speed up the
process. You may find that this baby has developed some compensatory sucking
habits as a result of having the tongue-tie for so long. You will not be able
to suck train via finger-feeding, the baby is too old. But using a football
hold helps bring the tongue down and forward and doing some head and neck
massage may help, after the treatment is done. It will take some time before
the compensatory habits are replaced by good ones: mother may continue to be
sore until the good habits develop. This is why doing the frenotomy as soon
as possible after diagnosis is important. You only have a three month window
in which to work most effectively with the suckign dysfunction. I wish I knew
of someone to refer you to but I don't. Ask all your friends and your
personal healthcare providers. You may find someone who will take care of
this now. Good luck!
