Becky,
Breastfeeding and Human Lactation Second Edition, Chapter 22, Work
Strategies and the Lactation Consultant, Kathleen G. Auerbach and Jan
Riordan. This chapter is very helpful and on pp712-15 there is a section
titled Hospital Lactation Programs. Specifically p714 there is
information stating, "Most hospital lactation programs, based on the
1:1000 ratio, are woefully understaffed and only provide part-time
services as a result of partial shift coverage or coverage for fewer than
seven days a week." There is also a chart, Box 22-2 with Sample Time
Expended to Provide LC Services in a Hospital. This should be helpful.
