At the 1997 LLLI conference in Washington DC, Dr. Alfredo Pisacane did
say that the cord should not be cut until after it stops pulsating to
prevent anemia. My notes say that 1-4 minutes of pulsating cord before
cutting while the baby is *on breast* increases iron stores so that baby
needs no early fortification. Unfortunately I do not have any note about
what happens if the baby is elswhere (i.e. abdomen) nor did I write down
why the "on breast" is particularly important. (I did underline it twice
though).
