Subject: Diarrhea while breastfeeding!
I have a Mom who delivered 2 weeks ago, calling to say that for the past 4
days she experiences bowel cramping and has diarrhea, only when
breastfeeding,
three to four times per day. Usually in the a.m., but also at night. She is
not sensative to any foods or have any history of this in the past, and has
no
other symptoms! Any thoughts?

I vaguely remember having similar problem myself after my first (cesarean)
delivery 4 years ago. I do not remember how long after the delivery it began
but I remember many times achieving good latch on with my H cup breast and 4
pound baby only to almost immediately have to break suction and RUN for the
toilet. I really never connected the two..nursing and diarrhea, except that I
knew nursing would cause uterine contractions, and I guess it didn't strike me
as all that important. In my case I am sure it did not last very long...(for
surely I would have become concerned?)
Maybe it's the Prolactin and relaxation......maybe a cesarean connection?
Probably not much help, but I thought I'd share. Maybe will be reassuring just
to know she's not the only one.:)
