In response to Narelle Clark's request for info on this medication=
 and
breastfeeding, here is what I found in Briggs, Freeman and Yaffe,=
 Drugs in
Pregnancy and Lactation (4th edition, 1994; p.570) "Methotrexate=
 is
excreted into breast milk in low concentrations. Afater a dose of=
 22.5
mg/day, mil concontrations oof 6x10-9 M (0.26=B5g/dl) have been measured=
 with
a milk:plasma ration of 0.08. The significance of this small amount=
 is not
known. However, because the drug may accumulate in neonatal tissues,
breastmfeeding is not recommended. the AAP consider methotrexate=
 to be
contraindicated during breast feeding because of several potential
problems, including immune suppression, neutropenia, adverse effects=
 on
growth, and carcinogenesis."

My question, as a NON-pharmacologist, is how great would those POTENTIAL
adverese effects be for a single dose? Anne Norton, if you are listening,
please reply. The small concentration suggests to me that those=
 risks
would be very small. But, I am not the right person to be making=
 such a
decision.
