Yaffa and others,
There have been some postings about nursing on one side only per feed.
As a mom and attending LLL years ago, I had always nursed just one breast
per feed, but never heard anyone discuss this, so neither did I, just
figured I was starving my child, but he would rarely take the other side,
and I didn't fight it. He was growing. After working now with many
mothers, I find this is almost one of those issues like how long did you
nurse, if the topic is brought up , many women tell of nursing one side
per feed, ofter offering the other, but after much experience, not even
bothering the ofrfering part. I am most comfortable for now(My ideas
change as I read Lactnet or are certainly challenged) telling moms to
breastfeed, let the baby finish, sometimes a little wiggle and jiggle to
entice him back and most frequently he'll let go when he's finished.
Change the baby, burp the baby, whatever their routine would like, then
OFFER the other side. I take away the must of both breasts. Once
again, following the *growing* babys cues. Its not all or even aolt of
moms that one side per feed breastfeed, but it certainly is not rare.
Just my experiences.
