Thanks To All!,  who have again been so quick to respond. I spoke with the
mom again this evening and she says she and baby are doing fine. She will
abstain from breastfeeding until the 36 hours is up. She feels she has
learned from this. I think she was sincere. She ask if I had reported her to
authorities, I said I had not. But that she should keep in mind that this
baby even after waiting 36 hours will still show positive for the drug if
tested for 7-14 days. And that she can't clean this out of her system as
quickly as mom might. It is commendable that she had the courage to ask
these questions knowing that something very unpleasant might come of it.
This morning she was very hesitant to tell me her name or number. I don't
want anyone to think I in any way condone this behavior. I hope she not only
learned from this but will find some better friends. People do stupid
things. Hopefully I will never hear from her again. Now this could have made
for an episode of Chicago Hope, Huh.
