rebecca has mentioned something that is actually a technique that i find works
well. when i speak to a mother who is using the babywise stuff, i ask if they
investigated or read about other parenting methods or theories. when they say
no (well, once in a while someone actually has read something else), i suggest
that, since it is not working well for them (and why would they call me if it
were?), they might want to do some reading about an alternative parenting
method (guess which - attachment) which might offer workable solutions. this
type of approach is respectful and gives the mother a framework in which to
consider something else. comparison shopping, research, whatever. but it often
works.
