New Mothers Are Taking Longer To Return To Work-If At All
Challenge: A new mother is reluctant to return to work because she is
nursing her infant.
Solution: Her employer offers the Mothers At Work program which provides
information
and counseling on returning to work while breastfeeding.
No, this is not a solution to the 'challenge'. The solution is adequate
paid maternity leave. Pumping long-term to fulfill most of the nutritional
needs of an infant is not physiological; it is an inefficient way of
maintaining lactation; it is hard work; it is not as satisfying emotionally
to mother or baby.
Most of all though, it is sure as eggs *not* 'breastfeeding'.
