Nuala
I have seen one case of infected implant in a breastfeeding woman.
She developed what appeared to be mastitis, but the symptoms
worsened and did not respond to the usual antibiotics. She was
admitted to hospital when the scar line from the original implant
looked as if it was breaking down. The implant was removed and
she received IV antibiotics. Baby continued to breastfeed. As the
implant is inserted behind the glandular tissue of the breast, its
removal shouldn't have any effect on breastfeeding. If anything, I
would imagine that draining the breast would put less pressure on
healing tissue underneath. If the space that the implant was in is
still draining, there is still not a problem.

Through all this my client continued to feed for about 5 or 6 years.
(This is why I'm a bit blurry with the details).

Hope this helps
Fiona
