I also saw the Babies R Us ad and was very dismayed. Recently I attended a
Baby Faire sponsored by Babies R Us in the Atlanta Area. I was dismayed at
the lack of support to breastfeeding. There were formula and bottle
manufacturers all over the convention floor, but no breastfeeding
information anywhere.
I am presently trying to get in touch with them to see if this is an event
planned for future years and how to get some breastfeeding resources to be
represented. It seemed like they were really pushing the formula all over
the place.
As a newcomer to the Lactation Consultant field (but have been breastfeeding
for the last few years) I was really surprised and did a good bit of
educating on my own that afternoon with my daughter in the sling nursing
quite happily - I got a lot of questions from pregnant women (and a few
husbands) about the sling and my nursing top. Hopefully I showed them that
it's not a hard thing to do!

As far as Babies/Toys are Us goes, you can call your local (USA) store and
they will be glad to give you the toll-free number of their corporate offices.
If you dial this number and select the extention listed for charitable
contriibutions you can hear a very pleasant recording about how "they" are
contributing to non-profit organizations which benefit child health and
education causes. However, I have "jumped through their hoops" for two years
now attempting to gain some monetary support for my local La Leche League
group to no avail. First year they mailed out a box of First Aid for infants
and Toddlers pamphlets (yea-yea-yea). This year, I received a thanks but no
thanks letter. Maybe we can target them with a flood of BF info and
statistics. Until I see a change, maybe even just stocking BF aids like breast
pads...I will not be sharing my wealh with them.
