Oh, I love this topic. I'm a bit hesitent to send this because it just might
freak people out but oh well... I feel the placenta is so neglected as far as
how amazing it is. The midwife who attended both of my births is currently
working on a book about the placenta. I'll share the practice that many ofthe
direct entry midwives use here. This may gross some people out. In a "normal
birth" the chord is not cut for about 2 or 3 hours. I believe the practice is
to prevent jaundice. Both mine stayed attached for about 3. Niether of my kids
had jaundice or anemia. I hear the same from dozens of moms who have
homebirths here. Then a piece of the placenta is cut and made into a placenta
coctail for the mother to drink if she wants it. Many moms are too squeemish
or it may violate dietary practices like kashrus so they don't do it. I can
say from experience it is very fortifying. I don't know, the minerals, iron or
what but I had two. For chord care we used goldenseal powder.
