I agree that this is probably a common phenomenon. But it is not discussed
at all, that I can find, in the newest editions of Riordan and Auerbach's
"Breastfeeding and Human Lactation" or LLL's "Womanly Art of
Breastfeeding." I have seen references here and elsewhere to a drop in the
milk supply, but in this case the mother was noting irritability in her
babies that she felt was perhaps from a hormonal influence rather than a
low milk situation. Perhaps we need some research in this area, as it may
be one of those subtle factors that leads to earlier weaning than we would
like to see in a lot of mother-baby pairs.
