I have posted several times recently, so will reintroduce myself. When
I signed on originally I was the childbirth education director in a
community hospital in the S.W. USA. I continue to work for the same
company, but for the last year and a half have been the lactation
specialist for two community hospitals, the one where I originally
worked and a sister hospital in a nearby city. I have 40 hours a week
to meet the needs of the nursing mothers, do staff education, prenatal
parent education, etc. for these two hospitals with a combined birth
rate of well over 300 a month. This doesn't meet all the needs, but is
much better than when I only came in occasionally when called to meet a
special need. Last year most of our nurses attended a 5-hour session on
benefits, latch, intrapartum BF management, meds, infection control, and
how to set up a breast pump. We hope to be able to provide additional
education this year.
I have been reading the posts for the first part of August. I am
currently NOMAIL and will probably stay there indefinitely as I can't
find time to read the posts on a regular basis, although I find them
very helpful, and at times entertaining as well. I love Dr. Newman's
refreshing comments, such as, "When in doubt, breastfeed."
Since I am NOMAIL, you will need to contact me personally if you have
comments regarding my posts on "Measuring Breast Milk," "How Much
Colostrum?" or "Hypoglycemia in the NICU."
Nice to be back in the group.
