I missed the first part of this thread, but I'm on a Pediatric Pulmonary
rotation and the attending (Head of the CF program) I'm working with is
VERY supportive and pleased when the moms breastfeed. It is amazing the
differences in Bfed vs. artificially fed children - as I take history
after history these kids get into trouble with infections as soon as they
stop breastfeeding.
If you could get moms to breastfeed at least to two years it would probably
save between 2 to 5 hospitalizations and buy some time (a year or two)
before the child begins to build those anitbiotic resistant organisms which
eventually win out. Breastfeeding has my vote.
