I had twins born at 35 1/2 weeks April 1998. AT 2 weeks of age they
both were very ill with RSV. At first they did not know what it was as
my one daughter was BLue (very scary - thought I would lose her) Later
we found out it was RSV. Because we had such a mild winter here RSV
hung around longer than usual this year. I was very proud of myself that
my daughters were and still are exclusively breastfed despite being
admitted to NICU at birth and then the Peds ICU at 2 weeks of age. Well
to clarify, they were given expressed breastmilk when I was not
available - they were admitted to 2 different hospitals with the RSV.
The thing I would like to know is what is the typical length of stay for
babies with RSV. My daughters were in the hospital for 5 days and then
I brought them both home - One was still on oxygen. She remained on
oxygen for 5 more days until I could wean her off. I suspect a ABM fed
baby would have been in the hospital for a longer period of time.
Anyone know the common length of stay?
