Dear colleagues,
There is a young mother is a support group that meets (hospital sponsored)
twice monthly. This mother has a history of ulcerative colitis and has been
in an active phase for greater than two months. Her baby is 6 months old
and they are having fun introducing solids .She is pleased that he guides
her hand with the spoon to his mouth. She has been on Prednisone 5-40mg for
two months. Her HCP will do a colonoscopy this week and then consider
changing her meds to an immunosuppressant 6MP. Grady Poison Control has
advised against BF on the 6MP ,her HCP does not want her to stay on the
Prednisone for such long periods.
This post is not a plea for ammo to alienate her against her HCP.( She has
been under treatment for this condition a long time before pregnancy. She is
30 years old looks very healthy and has a very healthy baby.) I hope to
glean some info from others who have mothers with this chronic disease and
how it was managed.
Any good advice to mother's about to go on immunosuppresent meds ? This
drug therapy take a few months.
TIA
With kindest regards,
