I would greatly appreciate your collective thoughts on the following:
One of my group moms has a little girl, just over 1 year old, breastfeeding
for most of her nutrition. This little girl has been diagnosed with kidney
reflux, grade 1 in right and grade 2 in left. She has pain when she
urinates (grunting, face turns red)
She is being seen by a pediatric urologist, here in Lexington. To make a
final diagnosis on what is happening and what can be done to help her she
is scheduled for a exploratory surgery next week - a cyscoptopy (sp?) of
urethrea, kideny, bladder and ureters.
Her mom has been given the following instructions for the day of surgery -
she is to be without food or liquids for 6 hours, if not followed she was
told there is a risk of problems with the anesthesia.
Now, I know with most surgeries that clear fluids (like breastmilk) are
okay. Is there something about this type of surgery that this little girl
would have to totally fast for 6 hours or can we have some ammunition make
some sort of compromise since a year old child who hasn't had food or drink
for six hours can be difficult to deal with since she would be very
uncomfortable.
Please reply cc me in your replies.
TIA
