Hi Everybody:
I think that everyone is posting great stuff on nipple confusion, and that
everyone is right. Babies are people, and like adult people, come in an
infinite number of varieties.
Let's change the focus a bit so I can try to make a point.
When something new is published, there are people who want nothing to do
with it, people who try it and hate it, people who try it and like it, people
who get confused because there is something new to do, people who get
overwhelmed because there are too many choices, people who become activists
about the new way, people who become staunch defenders of the old way.....and
on and on and on.
So why not with babies and teats and nipples? Some can go back and forth
easily, some can't. Some refuse. Some get confused. Some can do it some of the
time and not at others. It depends on so many variables: birth experience and
that particular baby's reaction to the birth, medications, separation,
mother's intention and anatomy and milk supply (which depends on a zillion
other factors), and environment (at the birthplace and in the home). All these
variables make wonderful, challenging, sometimes frustrating or infuriating
work for us. Hallelujah!! Warmly, Nikki
