Susan,
How many hours a week do you work?
I work in a hospital that has approximately 1350 deliveries a year. I am
working 24 hours as staff nurse and 16 hours a week as LC. Most weeks I
work overtime 4 - 8 hours on lactation also. When I work staff nurse on the
mother-baby unit or in the Nursery I attempt to visit the breastfeeding
mothers and hope to be able to observe the latch-on and suck of a feeding
as well as some instruction on breastfeeding. I have office visits by
appointment, make follow-up phone calls, etc.
I am going to present a proposal to add another day lactation. Maybe they
would be willing if I save them some overtime money. The staff nurses would
like me to have more time to spend with the new mothers. Maybe I have a
chance. :-)
