No, Mum has not had breast surgery, she also does not a history
of cysts, lumps or severe engorgement. She feels today that the
breast may let down very occasionally (I asked her to really
observe what was happening with sucking and swallowing and
duration of good gulping) and not as well as the left breast does,
but for example, when she is cold, like in the middle of the night (it
is winter here), it does not let down at all, but the left one will.
Another thing of interest is that the child health nurse told her not
to let the baby sleep for longer than 4 hours at night. I feel that if
the baby is feeding well in the day it is ok for it to sleep at night,
even at 2 weeks old (the child health nurse said it is not ok until 4
weeks old). This baby was going 3 hours between feeds, I
suggested to feed it more often (2 hourly) as it is unsettled, not
crying, just not sleeping and squirming all the time and to ensure
that it is actually nutritive sucking for the feed, not non nutritive, as
it was staying on for an hour. Mum says that the red area on the
problem breast is a little improved today.
