It would seem that a program that allows the mother and new baby to stay
together while mother is in rehab would have the most potential for success.
There probably are not too many of such programs around, but I believe we have
one here in Illinois.  If a mother were encouraged to breastfeed in that
situation, that could give her more motivation to succeed at rehab.  Maybe
someday we'll have enough numbers to really know.....V. Nichols-Johnson, MD
