Jack, I agree.
If one watches a baby at breast and does not hold their head, but support the
neck and spine, the baby will right itself during a fdg. Even babies who bury
their faces into the breast with latch-on. I don't know all the potential
complications of narcotics in birth but a healthy baby will not stay at the
breast if they can not breath.
I do not think this is a good example to say moms should not have rooming-in.
Hospt nurses need to trust mother nature because that has been around a lot
longer then hospt. I know very well, I worked many years in hospts and still
affileated with them. Change is hard but this one (roomin-in) is definately
better for moms and babies.
