Hi all,
I am working with a 2 month old who is having periods of what mom describes as
choking and gagging. Baby is not really spitting up only seems like she is
going to. Does it periodiacally...not while breastfeeding and not really
following any particular pattern.(Had mom kep a diary) Her pediatrician
suggested keeping feedings to 10 minutes total (5 minutes on a side).(?)
Baby's weight gain is good. I discussed with mom possibility of oversupply but
baby's choking, gagging, sputtering are not at all related to baby at breast
and baby not really spitting up, only gagging. Pediatrcian sent mom to a
pediatric GI who wants to put baby on Cisapride and do an upper GI and EKG.
This baby also had one apnea spell about 1 week ago while they were changing
her diaper lasting about 20 seconds. None since. Her pedi dismissed this as an
isolated incident. Has anyone dealt with any cases like this? Any feedback
would be appreciated. Parents don't want to put baby on meds if not needed.
Thoughts???
