Regarding what to do with "free" ABM. I agree with sending it back C.O.D.
Years ago when I was Director of Prenatal Education at a local hospital in
Albuquerque, the instructors saw a wonderful magazine from the LaMaze
Association that they wanted that was free. I read the magazine and the
articles were quite good. So we ordered 1,000, enough for a year. What
arrived was 1,000 "packs" put together by a formula company. In the packs
were samples including formula samples.(Also the Lamaze Magazine.) I
immediately sent them back to LaMaze with a letter of explanation.(There
must have been 10-12 large boxes of those things!) Not a month later I saw
that NAACOG(the name at that time) was endorsing these packs. I wrote them
a letter and called their office many times on the phone with no response.
However, a year later NAACOG came out with a statement in support of
breastfeeding. So, hopefully sending the stuff back sends a strong
statement.

One time I was boasting about sending formula back and a friend who worked
in Haiti stated that they never sent formula back; they just told the Moms
it was enriched milk for breastfeeding moms. Malnutrition was a problems
for their breastfeeding moms. Made them much better breastfeeders. I
thought that might be an exception. Carol
