I think humility is the key here. I have had infants who did everything
right, but still did not gain well, all I had was the fact that the
mother had called me. I think that we need to keep in mind that
screening tools are all only that. No screening tool is perfect, and
none could be by definition. Medicine, and life for that matter can
never be totally ascertained and compartmentalized. Apparently, you
caught this infant not gaining well. Again, a dose of humility keeps us
knowing that we never know enough, as you suggested.
