Another book with whale nursing appropriately (but briefly) described is
"Whales: a First Discovery Book" from Scholastic, Inc. "created by
Gallimard Jeunesse, Claude Delafosse, Ute Fuhr, and Raoul Sautai.

BTW, I bought the book at the Center for Coastal Studies (Provincetown, MA)
after returning from a "whale watch" trip, which was FANTASTIC!!. I was
profoundly moved by seeing the whales up so close. Some of them surfaced
less than 15 feet from our boat. They are truly magnificent mammals.

For you trivia buffs: Whale milk is slightly pink, from high levels of
lactoferrin. And mother whales don't eat for about 6 months while they are
nursing their calves. (They nurse for a longer than this. The fasting has to
do with where they are located - in the warm waters where they birth,
apparently there is less food available. Then they travel north to colder
waters where there is more food.) Makes me want to learn more about whale
birthing and feeding!!
