I received a call from a woman whose 14 month old baby began making faces
when he nursed on one side- as if it tasted bad. Mother expressed one ounce
from each side and noted that the yucky side was yellow in color and tasted
"bitter" or "sour", the good side was milky white and sweet. Baby was not
refusing to nurse on the sour side, but clearly disliked it. Both of her
children preferred the "sweet" side. She had a "stomache virus" last week
and the baby has had an upper respiratory illness with no fever. She has not
had a fever, no signs of plugged ducts nor mastitis. No family history or
risk factors for breast cancer. Any ideas on what might be causing this or
what type of medical follow-up should be recommended? (if any) Thanks, Cathy
