Dear Alicia,
This is the second round of antibiotics and MD has not ordered a culture
and sensitivity yet? Using a dipstick to diagnose and treat (repeatedly)
a UTI or PID seems like pretty shoddy medical practice to me. You might
want to gently urge the mother to request more thorough testing before
she is put on any more antibiotics. Either one of these conditions,
improperly treated, can lead to longer term and potentially dangerous
problems. Also, I think she needs to know if the infection is in the
urinary tract or the reproductive tract - these are different conditions
posing potentially different problems and with different probable
pathogens. ??? Sorry for rambling, but this seems really stupid.
