I'm chimiing in a little late here but just got back from vacation
and something Gail Hertz wrote hit home.

patients DON'T follow the advice and do well, BUT THE HCP DOESN'T KNOW THE
ADVICE WASN'T FOLLOWED... the success of trying to change that provider's
routine is going to be limited --- after all, the HCP is assuming the
success is following their recommended intervention.  >>

When my son went for his two week check he had not regained his birthweight.
He was 10#2 at birth and 9#15 at 2 weeks.  I went back three days
later and he was still 9#15.   The doc left the room and came back
with all sorts of formula and a cute diaper bag for me.  She told me to
supplement 2 oz after every nursing.  I was speechless -- for a minute.
I told her that I was not going to do that.  I told her I would feed him every two
hours around teh clock and that I'd come back in a few days.  She was
very upset and said she disagreed with me but I was the mom.  So home
I went.  When I went back three days later my son had gained three/fourths a
pound.  She said to me that I had taught her a great deal.  That she
never would have considered fixing breastfeeding.  It just wasn't what
she was taught.  She has referred many women to our LLL group since.
