Susan,

While I am sure that a huge part of the behavior of mothers who are
sending their children to the nursery is convenience and tiredness (I
personally took the wrong perspective that my time in the hospital was to
recover from my c-section so i could go home and be a mother), there is
another possible source for this behavior.
With an increase in promotion of "rooming-in" and keeping artificial
nipples away from newborns (I knew that much, and I had only stuck to
"mainstream" pregnancy books and parenting magazines...no names needed), you
might want to check what the women are being told in the prenatal classes
that the hospital provides. That can be the most trusted source of new
mothers as to how to behave.
Just one possibility...surely not the only, and in your situation, may
not be the case.
