Hi, my name is Tammy Anderson, I am a Family Nurse Practitioner Student
at
the University of Kansas  and have been developing guidelines for unit
commanders on how to support women who want to continue breast feeding.
 I
have also completed a brochure for Army women who need to pump their
breasts while doing field duty (ie. camping out)  This may be for 1 day to
6 weeks.  These women are also exposed to substances like tear gases (CS,
CN, OC). The relative half-life is very short, so I am currently,
recommending 4-8 hours before breastfeeding. Decomtaminating the skin in
this environment is a problem and the breast milk may be contaminated.
If you have any suggestions or know of any other military lactation
specialist who may be of help, I would appreciate the assistance.
