I know in the dairy industry there is a similar condition in cows. The
"stringy" thing is sort of like coagulated milk, almost cheese - like. It
cloggs one area and leads to repeated episodes. The only thing I know of
is pressure from behind the plug towards the nipple during nursing. Baby's
suction and pressure helping to unplug. She probably needs an extra pair
of hands to do this and hubby could be shown. I do know one mom from
years ago who actually used a clean needle and tweezers on herself and got
it out, but again she needed help with the pressure from behind the plug.
BFAB recommends very warm compresses prior to trying to unplug to soften
blister and dilate duct slightly. p. 406. Perhaps someone at LLLI could
help mom or dr with info. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
