My Dear Lactnetters,
I heard a horrow story this week at WIC. I guess I will never "have heard it
all".
This mom's baby is 7 months old now, but long weaned, because when he was 2
1/2 months old, she found some lumps and her OB, when called, had her come in.
She was then referred to "The Breast Center". (It's not many towns away, and
I had never heard of this "center".)
She said they had her breast imaged on a screen and they put a needle into her
breast and waved it around until they found the pocket and aspirated some
milk out. Then they went for another one at a different area of her breast.
The procedure was extremely painful and they wanted to put another needle in,
but she insisted that they stop. They agreed, but told her to come back for
more another time. She said she would not go back and weaned her baby "to
avoid the problem".
She told me that she could hardly drive herself home that awful day. She was
in so much pain that she couldn't move her arm.
Would someone tell me if this "Breast Center" was doing anything right ???
Was there any need for this? I am shocked.
This mom repeatedly said, "I wanted to breastfeed for a good long time."!
