Hi all, I wonder if you have any ideas on this one. Very nice mom happily
breastfeeding 6 month old. But mom is losing quite a lot of weight. Baby
is receiving some weaning foods, but breastfeeds often in the day and
several times at night (by the book, right?). They both love breastfeeding.
Doctor has done tests on mom, finds normal thyroid, but low blood sugar,
says she is hypoglycaemic, advises weaning, and has scheduled an appointment
with a consultant physician for mid-July.

I would like to arm mom with some appropriate information. I have suggested
that she see a dietician, in the meantime cut out refined carbohydrates,
increase calories with more frequent small meals (proteins, veg, fats,
unrefined carbohydrates). I have tried to search the Archives, but am
finding only references to hypoglycaemia (hypoglycemia!) in the newborn,
nothing for the breastfeeding mother. Any ideas? I'm off to the LLL Conf
in South Africa tomorrow, but my family will store up my mail for me. Mom
is going to contact me again after I get back next week. Thanks if you can help.
