Dear Chanita,
You may be right about the preeclampsia vs MgSo4 issue. In fact, it
would make sense since some people report delayed lactogenesis after MgSo4 and
some people report the opposite. We give a lot of MgSo4 at my institution for
both pre-eclampsia and preterm labor. Could be it works opposite ways in
different diagnosed populations . But for the initial study I'm trying to
keep the variables limited so I will probably just look at the pre-eclamptic
moms. Can't distinguish between the effects of pre-eclampsia and the MgSo4 at
my institution because ALL the mom's with pre-eclampsia get it. Maybe we can
look at length of therapy as a variable. i.e. if it's the MgSo4 and not the
pre-eclampsia the effect should be more severe for the mothers on it long
term? Maybe someone else has an idea?
