I am working with a mother that fell into the 3 percent of the LAM method of
birth control. She is due in September and her first infant will be one in
August. Her second pregnacy was diagnosed in January after her first infant
lost a pound in one month. (Full time breast feeding, no supplements +
condom) The good news is her Pediatrician!!!!! (I'm not knocking) suggested
she rent a pump (knowing she was prenant) to build her her supply back up. She
currently pumps 2 - 6-8 ounce bottles a day to supply breastmilk to her 9
month old infant and is thrilled that she has been able to do this. The
question is what type of birth control to use after the second infant is born.
She wants to breast feed as long as possible. I spoke with her about cervical
mucous checking, and suggested talking with someone about Natural Family
Planning. Her MD wants her to go on the Mini-pill post-partem, my
understanding that it is only 97% effective, Does anyone else have experience
with highly fertile lactating women.?
Thank you
Karen Querna
