>I keep reading about even one drink of ABM setting a child up
for allergies, etc. Is there documented research about this....<
Search Medline for the Host and Husby article which showed that the only 9
babies of almost 1750 to have symptoms of cm allergy while still
exclusively breastfed had all been comp fed formula in the 1st 3 days of
life (and only one mother of 9 knew this to be the case.) there were 30
other breastfed babies of teh 1750 who had symptoms of cma, but all only
after cma was introduced to teh diet directly.
Re anaphylaxis: there's a 1930's artcle that documents the death of a baby
soon after birth: baby breast-refused first time, was persuaded to drink
second time, died. Wonder why we still haven't taken in utero sensitisation
as seriously as we should, and instead insist that breastmilk sensitisation
explains babies who have reactions on their "first" exposure to foods..
