This information is for Jeanette Panchula and anyone elso who may benefit. The Lactation Support Center at my hospital in only 9 months old, and has been lots of fun and some work to put together! As in so many other health care institutions, we have come across some bumps along the way in the area on tongue-tie and frenotomy. What has helped a lot so far is a video purchased from Dr. Evelyn Jain from Calgary, Alberta, titled Tongue-Tie: Impact on Breastfeeding, which includes demonstration of frenotomy. Two of our Drs. have seen it and CHANGED THEIR MINDS about frenulum clipping being only a thing of the past. One of our family practice docs has clipped two so far, as an old county FP physician showed her how to do it during her residency years ago just in case she would ever need to do it. But our Pediatricians don't exactly want to refer to an FP. This video is Dr.-to-Dr. One of the dear docs who changed her mind is the medical director of our Lactation program, she wants to learn how to perform frenotomy and hopefully she will be willing and able to do it whenever needed. She and I are also arranging a Peds Grand Rounds presentation for August or Sept. on the subject and I am hoping a bf friendly ENT doc will speak. So this is what is working at my hospital, good luck at yours! Dr. Jain's phone/fax is 246-7076, she works at the Lakeview Breastfeeding Clinic in Calgary and gets referrals from other breastfeeding clinics, hospitals, and LCs. I live in Minnesota, which is close to Canada, and was fortunate to learn from her at an all-day conference 2 years ago.
Just returned from Scottsdale and the BSC conference there was fantastic! Learned a lot and was pleased to meet so many others working in Lactation. I purchased two videos of Dr. Palmer, DDS, and may show them at a Peds Grand Rounds in the future.....shall I serve popcorn????
