Hello lactnetters
I have a patient who delivered 3 days ago and has a history of
fibrocystic breast disease (as does her mother - who according to the
patient was not able to breastfeed).
This mom wants to nurse, but finds even pumping extremely painful (in
tears with Medela classic on lowest level). Baby has not latched on
and she was set up with the pump at the hospital.
I did do a search on lactnet to find anything pertinent on this topic.
I did not find any specific mention of severe breast pain when it came
to nursing or pumping. Does anyone have any suggestions for me when it
comes to helping this mother. She asked me if her breasts will get less
painful after the milk comes in in volume. I was not able to give her
an answer.
I do plan to discuss with her all the usual treatment options that were
brought up in the search.
I would be appreciative of any help you can provide me.
Thanks
