Oh Jan - you hit a sore button on the ankyloglossia.

I'm still in the same fight I was over a year ago (see previous Lactnets)
with a group of Peds who not only don't believe in it, but have complained
to my superiors about my giving the information to the moms even when they
have come to me for a consult. It seems they want me to NOT tell the mom
what I see during my consult, but to tell them I need to talk to their
pediatricians - then them and have them decide what should or should not
be done with their patients... (which means they want moms to do nothing
about it - that the baby will outgrow it).

In this last situation the mom has a family history of breastfeeding, it is
VERY important to her, and her baby is only getting 8 grams at a feed
despite changes in positioning, mouth opening, etc. She is now pumping and
feeding until she gets to see the doc (she asked for the name and I gave it
to her) who will do an assessment.

And yes, sending the pediatricians COPIOUS amounts of literature had done
nothing to change their minds....

Expecting more fireworks than the 4th of July next week...
