I have a pregnant woman in my practice who is now about 16 wks gestation
with her first child.  she is 35 yrs old, a teacher.  She is a real type A
person, wants to do every thing "right".  I like her a lot.  She is funny
and sensible.

She has a big problem.  She is very "breast adverse" for lack of a better
way of putting it.  She doesn't like any sort of touching of her breasts,
especially the nipples, either by herself or her husband, and when I did her
first prenatal, she just grit her teeth and got through the breast exam.

She doesn't remember any sexual abuse, but understands there may be
unremembered touching and/or abuse in her childhood.

She wants to nurse her baby, but is dreading it, and doesn't know how she
will react to the baby sucking.

This is what I came up with:  Plan A - start now with gentle touches by
husband and work up to him orally touching the nipples - sort of just
dealing with it and hoping she will finally get used to it.

Plan B:  If she absolutely can't deal with the baby nursing, I told her the
baby will sense this and that isn't a good thing, and she will rent a Med.
classic and pump indefinately.

Has anyone got a Plan C to suggest.  She is such a sweet woman and really
wants the best for her child.
