i have a question on behalf of my sister in law - it was asked of me in my
capacity as a la leche league leader, so i'm hoping it isn't to much of a
"personal" help question for this list. it is breastfeeding realted,
although not necessarily directly. She is 35 weeks pregnant with her
second child (first is 4 1/2, weaned at 3 3/4) and for the last week and a
half or two has had a "sore" for lack of a better word on her areola, below
her nipple. She describes it as redish, a little dry, a tiny bit cracked,
and somewhat painful. She applied a healing balm that she has used on
other sores before with great luck, but it did not improve at all. She
wonders if it could be yeast, but can't imagine where/how she got it - no
recent antibiotics, no vaginal yeast (ever) and no nursing child. She is
worried about findign out what it might be before the baby comes, to make
sure nursing will post no problem. Any thoughts? just hormone related
skin irritation/excema? any insight appreciated.
