How interesting that I've never heard this before! PDR quote: Pediatric
Use. Hemolysis, jaundice and hyperbilirubineamia in newborns,
particularily in premature infants, may be related to the use of
AquaMEPHYTON (phytonadione). Therefore, the recommended doses should not
be exceeded." and "Hyperbilirubinemia has been observed in the newborn
following the administration of phytonadione. This has occurred rarely and
primarily with doses above those recommended." Now what I want to know is
how do they tell that the hyperbili was caused by the Vit K.? Premies tend
to get hyperbili more and there are so many factors with a full term baby.
Just exactly how do they know it was the Vit K? Puzzled in SNJ. Pat
