I recently worked with a mom who was inducing lactation, having never given
birth. After pumping for a few weeks she saw her first secretions, which
she described as like thick peanut butter. As time went on the substance
became thinner and lighter and by the time baby was with her it was liquid
and yellow/white.
Instead of being concerned and "scraping it off", she was thrilled to see
something coming from her breasts. It is probably quite common in pregnancy
and, as with most things, some women will have more secretion than others.
The inversion perhaps keeps her clothing from wiping it off.
