I think you are right about there being a journal article/letter about this
subject. About a year ago, one of our OB's told a breastfeeding (BF) mom that
the only way to get her episiotomy to heal properly was to stop BF. She was
upset, told her pediatrician who is also IBCLC & the ped called the OB. This
OB also stated that slow healing was due to the low estrogen levels R/T BF &
if the mom continued to BF then it would require surgery to heal the
episiotomy. Of course the ped encouraged the mom to continue BF & had to help
ease her guilt for wanting to continue nursing her baby for longer than 4-5
months.
