Jeanne--I know that Family Physicians are specialists in family medicine,
but that makes them generalists which somehow translates, in some people's
minds, into less credibility. I wasn't intending to call down FPs, but
merely to reflect comments I've had from people in the US who knew Dr.
Jain's video was a valuable resource, but who also knew that many
specialists (which are whom LCs tend to be dealing with in the US when a
frenotomy is being considered) would reject it, for the reasons I cited.
Many of our physicians here have been a great resource to me over the past
10-15 years and most are quite breastfeeding friendly (they all THINK they
are...). Considering that in Western Canada we have a bf initiation rate of
about 85%, and here in the
Peace River area, it could be closer to 90%, I think we're doing pretty well
(but
need lots more work with duration).
