In North Carolina we have a number of WIC and WIC/Cooperative
Extension Service Peer Counselors making visits to new mothers in
hospitals. We have found that each situation is different. Each
hospital and community has their own issues that need to be addressed.
We also take the approach that peer counselors should be considered
an equal member of a place of employment with the same liability
coverage as that agency can provide, not just for pc's, but for any
worker put into a work situation such as making home visits or
     hospital visits.

Hope this helps. G Mason, State BF Coordinator and also a past WIC
     Director in Columbia, MO!
